Sunrise Triangle's History

Sunrise Triangle #146 was chartered in June of 1989, located in Baldwin, Long Island. Sunrise was a merger of two older Triangles, Grace Coolidge #70 and Morning Star #118. Now, after eighteen successful years and thirty five Beloved Queens, we are proud that Sunrise is one of the largest and most active Triangles in New York, continually growing, winning awards, and raising hundreds of dollars for charity each year. Sunrise Girls work hard, play hard, and are proud to represent the Nassau-Queens-Richmond District of the Organization of Triangles, Inc.

Organization of Triangles, Inc.

The Organization of Triangles, Inc. is a Masonic Youth organization for young ladies between the ages of 10 and 21 years old, in New York State. For the last 80 years, Triangle has provided young women a place where they can make friends and better themselves. For more information about the Organization of Triangles, please visit the official website at http://www.nytriangle.org. There you will find information on our organization, state events, our state officers, and about the other Triangles throughout New York State.

Our Founder, Rose E. Scherer

Triangle was the dream of one woman, who wanted to teach her children the fundamental values that would make them successful leaders and noble adults. Our founder, Mrs. Rose E. Scherer, was born on November 18, 1883, in New York City. In 1925, Mrs. Scherer was Grand Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. She conceived the idea of a fraternal youth group for the daughters of the Eastern Star and the Masonic Fraternity, to be a type of preparation for future membership in the adult organizations.

She presented her ideas to the Grand Chapter, and they were received with great enthusiasm. At the session in 1926, her efforts were accepted and adopted to be under the sponsorship of the Order of the Eastern Star. In the Spring of 1927, the first Charter was presented to a Triangle. Mrs. Scherer was designated lifetime State Director, and served in that capacity until 1975, when she retired at the age of 92.
